I’ve always loved maps. Blame my brave wonderful wanderlust mother for inspiring the insatiable curiosity of constant adventure in me throughout my entire life. Folded map stashed in the glove compartment while hitting the open road: I’ve always been fascinated by maps. Blame my wanderlust on my brave mothers insatiable curiosity of constant adventure, history, culture and its various layers of civilization.
From the end papers of J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Hobbit to the creased, worn-out family atlas that has traveled coast to coast with my children and I, and to the enormous old schoolroom pull-down vintage map of the 50 states hanging in our living room, there’s no end to the lure of travel when I’m studying the typography, colors, textures, patterns, keys and labels of a good map.
